Pupils across South and West Fife are reporting more positive experiences at school.
The findings come from the 2026 Pupilwise survey, which gathered feedback from more than 2,400 children and young people across early years, primary and secondary schools. Compared with 2024, pupils reported improvements across almost every measure. The survey found that:
- 85% of pupils said they feel safe in school, up from 70% in 2024.
- 94% said they feel welcome in school, up from 54%.
- 77% said their school takes action following reports of bullying, up from 51%.
- 90% said they can access support to help them achieve progress in their learning, up from 59%.
- 80% said their school and parents or carers work together to support them, up from 43% in 2024.
The survey also highlighted strong results for healthy lifestyles, physical activity, online safety and wellbeing education. Pupils reported positive relationships with school staff, with 93% saying adults in school are kind to them.
Cllr Dave Dempsey, Committee Convener, said:
“These are very encouraging results and reflect the hard work taking place everyday in our schools to support children and young people.
“It is particularly positive to see such significant improvements in areas including wellbeing, confidence, resilience, inclusion and how schools respond to concerns raised by pupils.
“Listening to pupils' views is an important part of ensuring our schools continue to meet their needs and help them achieve their full potential.”
While the results show substantial improvements since 2024, the survey also identified opportunities for further work. Areas of improvement included strengthening career education and helping pupils feel better recognised for their interests and achievements beyond school.
The findings will help inform future improvement planning across schools and education services in South and West Fife.
