K107FM at the heart of Fife

K107FM is an award-winning community radio station and Scottish charity, rooted in Kirkcaldy and connected to communities across Fife.

We believe local stories deserve to be heard. From community groups and charities to musicians, businesses and residents, we give people the time and space to talk about what matters to them. We create programmes that reflect local life, celebrate local achievements and help people feel more connected to the places they call home.

Our programmes are made by volunteers who care about local communities and the people within them. Together, they help deliver local news, music, interviews, discussion and information that might otherwise go unheard.

What Makes Us Different?

K107FM is made by the community,  we give them the microphone.

We are volunteer-led, locally rooted and focused on the people, organisations and stories that shape everyday life across the area we serve. Whether it is a charity sharing its work for the first time, a local musician receiving their first airplay, or a resident discussing an issue affecting their neighbourhood, we believe those voices matter.

We are interested in the stories that matter locally.

That means making time for conversations, giving people confidence to share their experiences and creating opportunities for those who have never been involved in broadcasting before.

What We Do

Closer Than Anyone Else

We focus on the news, organisations, events and conversations that are often overlooked elsewhere.

Our interviews are shaped by local priorities and designed to give people the opportunity to properly explain what they do, why it matters and how others can get involved. From local charities and community campaigns to grassroots sport and local music, we make time for the stories that help communities stay connected.

Open To Anyone

Community radio should be accessible.

You do not need broadcasting experience, media qualifications or industry connections to take part in K107FM. We provide opportunities for people of different ages, backgrounds and experience levels to contribute, learn new skills and become part of the station.

For some people, K107FM is their first interview. For others, their first volunteer role, first radio programme or first opportunity to share something important with a wider audience.

K107FM exists because local people give their time, passion and expertise to make it happen.

Our volunteers present programmes, conduct interviews, edit audio, support events, manage technology, create content and help shape the future of the station. Some arrive with years of experience. Many arrive with none at all.

What they share is a commitment to supporting our local community and giving others the opportunity to be heard.

Community radio is not something that happens to a community.

It is something a community creates together.

Supporting Local Voices

Our Impact

The value of community radio is measured in more than listening figures.

It can be found in the confidence gained by a new volunteer, the audience discovered by a local musician, the support generated for a community project and the connections created between people who care about local life.

Research among K107FM respondents found many listeners reported increased trust in information heard through community radio, while others reported engaging with local organisations, charities and businesses after hearing about them on air.

Our work has also been recognised locally and nationally through multiple years of nominations at the Community Radio Awards, recognition at the Fife Business Awards and success at Fife Voluntary Action's Volunteering and Voluntary Sector Awards. These achievements reflect the dedication, creativity and commitment of the volunteers who make K107FM possible.

While we are proud of that recognition, our greatest achievement remains creating opportunities for local people, championing local organisations and helping communities feel more connected.

K107FM is a community radio station and Scottish charity (SC043935), licensed by Ofcom to broadcast on 107FM from Kirkcaldy.

Our purpose is to provide community benefit through broadcasting, participation, training and engagement opportunities. The income we generate supports local programming, volunteer development and activities that help strengthen community connections.
