What began as a personal New Year's resolution has quickly grown into a thriving creative business for St Andrews entrepreneur Lynette Keating, founder of Fybre Twist, a specialist hand-dyed yarn company inspired by the colours and landscapes of Scotland.
Producing yarn for knitting, weaving and crochet enthusiasts, Fybre Twist creates distinctive colourways that capture the natural beauty of Fife and Scotland's coastline. From the vibrant pink hues of foxgloves to the rich purples and rust-brown tones of mussel shells found along local beaches, each product reflects Lynette's passion for creativity and craftsmanship.
"My journey began in December 2025 when I set a New Year's resolution to learn how to hand-dye yarn," said Lynette. "In April, I dyed my first skein using orange and blue to commemorate the Artemis II moon mission. The results were so inspiring that the vision for Fybre Twist was born."
Since launching the business, Lynette has immersed herself in every aspect of entrepreneurship, from product design and website development to branding, marketing and sales.
"Since then, I've been building the business, developing products and learning new skills in marketing, branding and product refinement," she explained. "It was incredibly exciting to make my first face-to-face sales at a pop-up event in August, and I'm delighted that The Wee Pin Cushion in Cupar and The Woolly Brew in Pittenweem now stock my yarn."
Like many start-up businesses, Fybre Twist has benefited from expert guidance and support. Lynette credits Business Gateway Fife with helping her turn a creative ambition into a sustainable business.
"Business Gateway Fife has been instrumental in helping me grow, providing access to invaluable resources, expert advice and fantastic ongoing support from my Business Adviser, Hannah Morton," she said. "Most of all, this journey has helped me flourish creatively, build confidence and make meaningful connections with wonderful people along the way. I would recommend anyone thinking of starting a new business to reach out to Business Gateway Fife."
Now trading online while building relationships with local retailers and customers across Scotland, Fybre Twist is weaving together creativity, community and entrepreneurship, proving that a simple resolution can lead to an exciting new business venture.
