Construction on a new 51,500 sq. ft. industrial development on the Glenfield Industrial Estate in Cowdenbeath has begun today (13th October 2026).
The CRT Property development will deliver high-quality industrial units, ranging from approximately 3,000 to 20,000 sq ft, providing flexible space to support local businesses to grow, creating jobs and opportunities to benefit the Fife economy.
The £7.5 million development is being delivered by CRT Property, a subsidiary of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust. £3.757m was secured by Fife Council through the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, the UK Government is providing £2.5 million of funding through the Growth Mission Fund, subject to business case approval, and CRT Property is providing the remaining amount from its own funds.
InvestFife, Fife Council’s Economic Development team, has supported the development through the sale of the Glenfield Industrial Estate site to CRT Property. InvestFife will continue to work with CRT Property as the project progresses and will support businesses looking to locate at the site, helping to create further opportunities for investment, growth and employment in Cowdenbeath and across Fife.
The charitable work of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust in Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government. Since 2023 in Cowdenbeath and Fife the CRT has supported 268 people through training courses. In addition, the CRT works with a number of grassroots community organisations and has provided 13 grants worth £23,730 since April 2026. This industrial development will provide long term funding to continue our work in coalfield communities for years to come.
CRT Property has appointed Kilmac as the principal contractor to deliver the development with the industrial units set for completion in Autumn 2027.
Nicky Wilson, Director – CRT Property said:
“This is CRT Property’s first industrial development in Scotland and an exciting opportunity to create a scheme which will benefit Cowdenbeath and communities across Fife for a generation. “Not only will the final units provide a significant number of new jobs but this is just the start, as we are keen to build more industrial developments across the Scottish coalfields. “We are looking forward to the difference this will make for coalfield communities in Scotland.”
Cllr Altany Craik, Fife Council spokesperson for finance, economy and strategic planning said:
"This development is a major investment in Cowdenbeath and a great example of partners working together to create opportunities for local businesses and communities. The new industrial units will provide modern, high-quality space for businesses to start, grow and invest in Fife, helping to create jobs and support our local economy. We are pleased to have secured £3.757 million from the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund to help make this project a reality.
Alongside support from the UK Government and CRT Property, this investment will bring longterm benefits to the area and help strengthen the local economy for years to come. Just as importantly, the income generated through this development will help Coalfields Regeneration Trust continue its valuable work supporting people, community groups and projects across our former coalfield communities."
Athole McDonald, Co-founder at Kilmac said:
“As a Fife-based contractor with a strong commitment to delivering meaningful social value alongside our projects, we are particularly pleased to be part of a development focused on creating lasting benefits for Cowdenbeath and the wider Fife community. “Throughout the project, we look forward to working closely with CRT Property and local partners to explore opportunities around employment, skills, training, education and community engagement, ensuring the impact of the development extends beyond the construction itself. “We look forward to delivering this exciting development and building a strong partnership with CRT Property.”
