Without Volunteers, Footcare Fife Wouldn't Be Possible

One volunteer's commitment is helping bring footcare closer to home – and more volunteers are needed to help make a difference across Fife.

Footcare Fife is celebrating the opening of a new clinic at Rosyth Health Centre, while highlighting the vital role volunteers play in helping people access regular footcare in their local communities.

One of those volunteers is Kim [pictured with pink hair], who was inspired to get involved after hearing about Footcare Fife through the NHS Podiatry Team in High Valleyfield.

Kim was impressed by the difference Footcare Fife volunteers make in their communities and wanted to play her part. With support from Fife Voluntary Action (FVA) and a team of experienced volunteers, she completed her training and is now part of the Footcare Fife team.

Kim is now helping to establish the new clinic at Rosyth Health Centre, making it easier for people in the local area to access footcare closer to home.

For Kim, volunteering is about much more than providing footcare.

Many Footcare Fife clients, like Mary from Rosyth, are no longer able to care for their feet because of health conditions. Regular footcare can help people stay comfortable and mobile, and make it easier for them to continue enjoying their everyday lives and staying connected to their communities.

That is why volunteers like Kim are so important.

Footcare Fife is a volunteer-supported toenail cutting service provided by FVA at 11 clinics across Fife. With around 4,500 clients, the service is extremely popular and helps people across the region stay comfortable and enjoy their lives.

Lyndsay Fraser Robertson, Head of Health and Social Care at FVA said “Footcare Fife is a great example of what can be achieved when volunteers, health services and community organisations work together. Our volunteers play a vital role in helping people access footcare in their local communities, supporting them to remain comfortable, and to live independently in their own homes for longer.”

Kateryna Kriukova, Footcare Fife Coordinator at FVA said "You don't need to have previous footcare experience to volunteer with us. We provide the training and ongoing support you need, and you'll be part of a friendly and experienced team. If you're looking for a rewarding way to give something back to your community, we'd love to hear from you.”
