Inverary Avenue play area in officially opened in Glenrothes

The much-anticipated refurbished Inverary Avenue play area has re-opened in Glenrothes, with local children and residents celebrating the occasion.

Just over £107,000 was invested in the refurbishment. Fife Council provided £85,000, laying the foundation for the project. From there, the Community Council, made up of dedicated local residents, secured £20,000 funding from Fife Environment Trust and raised an additional £2,300 to make the dream of a new playpark a reality.

Councillor Linda Erskine, Spokesperson for Communities, said: "This play area is a great example of what can be achieved when the community pulls together. The Community Council have done an amazing job, and it's fantastic to see the results. This park will be a special place for local families for years to come.”

Convener of the Glenrothes Area Committee, Councillor John Beare, added: "It’s a pleasure to be here at the official opening of this fantastic new play area, which has been made possible through the incredible partnership between the council and Pittcheuar, Stenton and Finglassie Community Council. This project highlights the power of collaboration – with input from the local community, we've created a space that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of those who live here. We're pleased to have worked together to provide a safe, fun, and accessible space where children can play and grow, and we look forward to seeing it enjoyed by families for many years to come."

The Community Council actively sought input and support from the community, organising a series of fundraising events that brought people together for a common cause.

The local community helped choose the final design, which is made up of a variety of equipment meaning there will be something suitable and accessible for everyone. Equipment includes, a dune buggy, a scooter seesaw, a crazy scrambler, a wheelchair carousel, a triple tower unit with a chute and swings.

The Community Council, supported by Fife Council’s Community Projects Team, worked tirelessly from planning to fundraising and consulting with the community. Their hard work has paid off, and the new play area is now a vibrant space for local children and families to enjoy.

Alastair McCabe, Chair of Pitteuchar, Stenton and Finglassie Community Council also shared the community council’s excitement. He said: Members of Pitteuchar, Stenton & Finglassie have actively fundraised to help with the creation of the new playpark at Inveraray Avenue.

Now that the playpark is complete, some of the local children have already been seen playing in the playpark and making good use of the equipment.

This was the first partnership we have had with Fife Council, and we hope the partnership will continue as we look to upgrade other playparks in our community council area over the next few years.”

The new Inverary Avenue play area is a brilliant example of community spirit and teamwork, creating a fun and safe space for everyone to enjoy.
