Mosaics – Berlin Single Launch

Mosaics released their new single “Berlin” on Friday the 4th of February, and to celebrate they heade

d over to the King’s Live Lounge in Kirkcaldy for a single launch gig. Along with them came a rising Fife band, TamanFaya and new group, Bears with Feathers. I have had a listen to the single and went along to the single launch. Here is my review of both

TamanFaya

Bears With Feathers

Single Review

“Berlin” is a breath of fresh air. Starting with a soundscape of a busy bar, something we have not heard much of in the last couple of years, a catchy riff fades over the top before the drums kick in and already you are getting into the rhythm of the track. Throughout, the drums really move you through the song transitions while funk riffs and the epic guitar solo really give you the attitude of the track. This pop-rock track has all the signs of Mosaics really finding their feet after a well-received debut EP last Summer. The simple melody and the chorus are made for jumping and singing along to and it makes this song an easy and fun listen. I have to say it really became an earworm for me (I love some ooos in a song!)

I definitely recommend giving this track a listen, and I look forward to hearing what else Mosaics have in store over the next year.

Launch Review

The day after “Berlin” was released, Mosaics alongside TamanFaya and Bears with Feathers descended on the Kings Live Lounge on the Kirkcaldy Esplanade.

TamanFaya kicked off the show. Having previously heard their recorded music with a male voice, I was excited to hear the bands sound with their new female lead singer, Lois. I was really impressed by her. I have always said they had a sound a bit like Royal Blood, so when they played a cover of their track “Figure it out” I was interested to hear how it sounded and it did not disappoint. The main takeaway from their performance was that, although they still need a bit of time to develop and gel as a band, there is a lot of talent between them, notably Matt who has mastered the guitar. I can only see the band getting stronger over time.

Next up was relatively new band Bears with Feathers, they may be fresh on the scene but many of the members have had previous experience in bands over the years. This really showed during their performance. They work together really well and seem to already have found their sound and where they sit in the local scene. They have yet to release any music but when they do I can already tell it will be well received. These guys are ones to watch for sure.

I could tell that Mosaics were excited to be sharing their single release and that shone through in their performance. Playing tracks from their debut EP as well as a few covers and of course the brand new single. I really enjoyed their set, full of high energy drums and sing along pop-rock vibes. We also got a first listen of a new track which doesn’t even have a name yet. It was well received and I think will be a great future release for them.

I have to say, it was really interesting to see a local band do a single launch event and it was a really great idea. As always, I am looking forward to my next local gig. If you are interested in learning more about our local talent you can tune in to Access All Areas every Tuesday from 8-10pm or the Scottish Music Scene on Thursdays 6-8pm on K107fm.
