The Frank Carson Story – I Didn’t Laugh I’d Cry **** 4 stars

Mike McCabe has come back to Edinburgh at a much bigger venue with this show. We see the show starting with “Frank Carson” in hospital where the news is announcing that he has been unwell. From this starting point, Mike takes us on a rollercoaster ride of Frank Carson where he was working in Irish Clubs where he “became a cracker”.

Mike gives a superb version of “The Comedians” where he made his name on UK Television. He also gave impersonations of Bernard Manning, Charlie Williams and Ken Goodwin with some of their jokes.

We were given a taster of his time in ITV’s Saturday children’s show Tiswas and such a wonderful career that Frank had.

Sadly at the end of the show we see Frank back in the hospital bed but, this is a unique chance to see the talents of Frank Carson and Mike McCabe.

The show runs until the 27th August (except the 13th) at the Assembly Hall at 1.40pm and is for 60 minutes. I personally think I would like to re-see before the show ends.
