The Pantomime at Kings Theatre has a big reputation to live up to and it will certainly not disappoint. The Holy Trinity of Panto - Allan Stewart, Andy Gray and Grant Stott are back with Cinderella in their 13th year as a trio.
It is the ultimate family show with humour on many levels and the script has a Lothian twist for everyone’s favourite rags to riches story.
The Panto revolves around its three main stars. Allan Stewart plays the fairy godmother – Fairy May - a fantastic performance played with boundless energy, lots of audience interaction and music numbers.
Andy Gray as Buttons played to the crowd with his jokes, and comic voice that even had the cast reduced to the giggles.
Grant Stott as Baroness Hibernia Hard-up (the Panto villain) was not as scary as in previous roles but he still revelled in the boos and hisses. The class of this trio was noticeable when props were missing or lines were missed and the ad libs were hilarious.
Space does not permit me to list all the supporting cast who were excellent. James Darch was indeed a handsome prince and ready to sweep Cinderella off her feet, while Gillian Parkhouse was a beautiful and charming Cinderella and looked stunning in her ball gown and diamonds.
It was a lavish production with glamorous costumes, high energy sing along numbers as well as beautiful ballads. Magical from start to finish, both children and adults were wowed at the end of the first act, when the glittering pumpkin coach flew around the auditorium driven by two beautiful white horses while snow fell over the stalls.
Dare I say it, the best Pantomime that I have been to. Head along to see the show running till 21st January, you will not regret it.
