Nicola, K107FM Intern, shares her voluntary arts week experience…

From the studio to the shopping centre!

As part of voluntary arts week, the K107FM radio team organised a recruitment day for the station. This event took place in The Postings, Kirkcaldy. The aim of the day was to promote the station which has been running for over a year, aswell as encouraging some new faces to the team. Members of the public were invited along to this FREE event and were provided with some entertainment from the local fife music scene. Acts included Kellie Buchanan, Stuart from The Complete Stone Roses and our headline act of the day One Last Secret. The event was a massive success with members of the public enjoying the station’s sounds and even getting some freebies.

The Broadcast Crew

Radio Chairman John Murray said ‘This was our first live broadcast from outside the studio. We didn’t announce this till the day in case the technology let us down but all was fine and we were able to relay the whole day live on 107 FM and across the world on our Apps and online’

It was hoped the event would encourage new listeners and new volunteers to the station. It was also a great opportunity for our regular listeners to put faces to the voices they hear on the k107fm airwaves. The event provided a great opportunity for our volunteers to speak about the great work involved in the running of the station and also acted as a platform for the presenters to showcase their skills to a live audience. It was clear the public enjoyed their day and particularly the local talent of their community. Radio Presenter Mike Bennett said “K107fm held their Open Day in the Postings Mall on the 16th May and along with some excellent acoustic and electric bands, there was also a good turn out of presenters. I always enjoy “Events” when you can meet the public and promote the Station.”

The K107FM team will be heading back on the road. The group will be taking part in a road show at Dunniker park next weekend on Sunday 31st May. So if you are reading this and want to meet the team and find out more about us then come along for a chat and some great entertainment to welcome the month of June. There will even be some family fun such as having a jump on a bouncy castle.

The K107FM team would like to thank the members of voluntary arts week as well as the participants on the day and finally we would like to thank all of YOU, for backing your local community station at the heart of Kirkcaldy. K107 FM is the on air name for Kirkcaldy Community Radio licenced by Ofcom since March 2014 providing an alternative 24 hour radio service as a registered charity and staffed entirely by volunteers.
